Christ International Ministries

CIM is a Bengaluru-based nonprofit working across Education, Women Empowerment, Environment, and Healthcare to break inter-generational poverty and strengthen community resilience. Through initiatives such as after-school programs, computer literacy training, nutrition and health support, free eye camps, sanitary-pad distributions, and tree-planting drives, CIM empowers migrant and underprivileged children and families across Bengaluru’s suburbs. Partnering with schools, hospitals, volunteers, and CSR allies, CIM’s mission is simple yet powerful, to help communities live with dignity and hope.

The Challenge

CIM’s previous website was built pro bono by an in-house tech vendor which wasn't very satisfactory. It was hosted on Wix, costing the organization about ₹12,000 annually. CIM needed a simple, flexible, low-cost solution and a well designed website, one that could help them own their digital space and tell their story without ongoing maintenance hurdles.

How OASIS Got Involved

CIM discovered OASIS (Open Source Alliance for Social Innovation & Sustainability) through a Website Workshop organized with Aikyam. The session focused on helping nonprofits explore open-source tools like Ghost, learn storytelling for digital platforms, and manage content without relying on developers.

Encouraged by the simplicity and potential of open source, CIM decided to rebuild their website. OASIS connected them to Kannan, an open-source developer, who helped bring their vision to life.

The Solution

The new website was designed to be lightweight, accessible, and completely self-managed by CIM’s team.

  • Platform: Built on Ghost, a modern, open-source content management system (CMS) known for its intuitive interface, perfect for non-technical users.
  • Hosting: Deployed on DigitalOcean, using NGO credits that drastically reduced hosting costs while ensuring reliability and scalability.
  • Design: Simplified, story-driven layout showcasing CIM’s programs, impact areas, and volunteer opportunities.
  • Capacity building: Kannan trained CIM’s team to manage, update, and publish content on their own, ensuring they wouldn’t need to depend on a developer again.

This collaboration gave CIM the digital independence they needed to tell their stories with authenticity and regularity.

Impact & Outcomes

  • Saved ₹12,000 annually by moving away from Wix to open-source hosting on DigitalOcean.
  • Content independence: CIM can now easily update their website, add events, and post stories without technical support.
  • Sustainable tech choice: Open-source tools like Ghost ensure no vendor lock-in and long-term flexibility.
  • Better storytelling: The new site makes it easier for donors, volunteers, and partners to engage with CIM’s work.

Low maintenance, high reliability: Using DigitalOcean NGO credits made the project cost-efficient while maintaining professional-grade performance.
